resources for Christian bloggers

And the Lord answered me: “Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it.” Habakkuk‬ ‭2:2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

I love words, and I suspect if you’re reading this page, you do, too. Words have always been my “thing,” and when I discovered the world of blogging and knew I could extend my writing through this new-to-me format, I never looked back.

I’ve been writing in some form or fashion all my life. I journal, I was the founder and editor/publisher of a literary magazine called PRAISE!, and am currently a freelance writer and editor through my work line.

A “letter” to my grandmother from my early writing/copying days…

Before I started blogging, I did a LOT of research on how to get going and stay going, learning which blogging platform to use, how to determine a niche, how to effectively market through social media, and so on. With a few posts under my belt and “lessons learned,” I began sharing tips and resources to help new and established Christian bloggers in their work (search Blogger Series on this site). This page is an official dedication to that, with the aim of helping my fellow bloggers deliver their best words, keeping God at the center of the work, and maintaining blog spaces that are welcoming and engaging.

So without further ado, let’s jump in. I hope these resources help you in your journey!

Heeding the Call
Got a stirring within to share your Christ experiences through blogging? In my post, Faith Writing: Can You Go Wrong?, I touch on responding to that tug and steps to take thereafter.

My favorite quote for this area came from the 2017 She Speaks conference (read about She Speaks below) as shared on Twitter: “The CONTENT of your blog needs to come from the CONTEXT of your life & relationship with God.” That’s where it starts (and ends), friends. It’s all about God. Your blog words should be established in THE Word. Folks will know if they aren’t.

Getting Started
One of the first influencers I engaged with after I launched New Day was Lauren Hooker. She’s the owner of Elle & Company, and provides extensive knowledge on running a blog and being an entrepreneur. Her post, The Complete Guide to Launching a Successful Blog, is one of the best and most comprehensive lists of tools needed to get started. Read it in full here, then read more about Lauren and her work here.

Can’t leave this area without PLEADING with you to be sure you have a grammar/stylebook, dictionary and thesaurus, some sense of knowing how to edit, and your favorite version of the Bible (and an understanding of the rules for sharing scripture from the publisher). Yeh, don’t forget that.

Blogging as Ministry
Christa Hutchins is a ministry consultant with Do a New Thing, and in her post, 4 Biblical Strategies for Growing Your Christian Blog, she helps bloggers set up God goals for their ministries. Read more here. Christa also offers More Than a Blog: Ministry Master Plan Course for being better equipped. Search her website for more details.

Learning, Growing, Connecting
I will never say that I’ve “arrived” in this work, so I’m always looking for resources and tips and tools from other blog experts that aid in my growth and engagement. Here are a few of my favorites:

COMPEL is a program founded by Lysa TerKeurst of Proverbs 31 Ministries and is probably my favorite for training Christian bloggers and writers and speakers alike. It is a membership-based program (there’s an annual fee) with weekly lessons from well-known Christian authors and teachers. Worth the investment! Click on my COMPEL badge on the New Day blog page for more details.

She Speaks Conference
Proverbs 31 Ministries also hosts the annual She Speaks conference for writers and speakers.
